labcoatgirl: (scared over the shoulder)
Betty isn't sure what happened. She can't remember what happened prior to this.

Everything feels wrong. Like her body is in the wrong position. But when she goes to stand up, she's still too short. There's too many smells in her nose, Betty giving her head a shake. When she does that, she can feel her soft ears moving on her head.

It's not till she does a complete circle that she realizes the situation.

She's a dog.

How could this happen?? she wants to say out loud. Instead, it comes out as a whine and a yip, something that surprises her. It's wet and damp where she is, Betty trying to walk on all fours to the end of the alley. It's pouring rain out there, her coat is already matted and soaked. She sits under an awning, trying to wait till it stops. Racking her poor dog brain to figure out a way out of this.

Bruce finishes licking his plate and then, in a fit of cleverness, picks it up, setting it on Betty's, and then picking both paper plates up and bringing them over to Stanley. The man raises a curious eyebrow at the intelligent action.

"You two a little far from home, perhaps?" Bruce whines, sitting dutifully on the other side of Stan from Betty and tilts his head.

"Quite a pair, the two of you." Stanley strokes his chin as if thinking about something. Perhaps he's trying to remember where he's seen this kind of pair before.

Betty licks at his hand, trying to get his attention before pawing at the door and looking at him hopefully. Stan looks a little worried. "Oh, I'm...not sure. Maybe after the customers leave. They get a little uneasy with dogs around the place."

Bruce just stays where he is. He really could muscle his way in if he wanted, he was a man-sized dog after all, but that would probably get them left outside. He drops the plates into Stan's lap and gives Betty a soft woof.

Hey, good idea. Try laying down and put your nose against the door, now. Less scratching, more pathetic. His tongue lolls dumbly as he tilts his head the other way and flips his ears forward.

Well, okay. She does as he suggests, throwing in another whine or two. This feels so wrong. Stan is a friend. And here she was trying to manipulate him into helping.

Stan gets the feeling he's being played too, even if it is by dogs, but he doesn't mind. However he's at a loss as to how a stray dog would know enough to pick up the plates and give them back after eating.
