Betty isn't sure what happened. She can't remember what happened prior to this.
Everything feels wrong. Like her body is in the wrong position. But when she goes to stand up, she's still too short. There's too many smells in her nose, Betty giving her head a shake. When she does that, she can feel her soft ears moving on her head.
It's not till she does a complete circle that she realizes the situation.
She's a dog.
How could this happen?? she wants to say out loud. Instead, it comes out as a whine and a yip, something that surprises her. It's wet and damp where she is, Betty trying to walk on all fours to the end of the alley. It's pouring rain out there, her coat is already matted and soaked. She sits under an awning, trying to wait till it stops. Racking her poor dog brain to figure out a way out of this.

Date: 2012-10-07 04:33 am (UTC)From:If he were in the mood, it'd almost be amusing to realize he did the same things as a human to keep from being noticed or threatened in his normal life as well.

Date: 2012-10-07 04:41 am (UTC)From:Even with the fur, she was cold, starting to lift her front feet again in turn. Her stomach was rumbling too, reminding her she hadn't eaten. Betty paces back and forth a bit before sitting again and sniffing the larger dog more curiously this time. You're quiet for a big dog.

Date: 2012-10-07 04:46 am (UTC)From:Perhaps if the rain lets up a little, they can go looking together because this whole having a large nose and all the smells he's picking up with it is a little overwhelming, and it's taking quite a bit of effort actually, to keep himself as calm as he appears.

Date: 2012-10-07 04:49 am (UTC)From:Well, here we are. And what a sad pair they are.
But on the bright side, the rain is slackening. Before she can stop herself, Betty gives her coat a shake, sending droplets in all directions.
...oops. Sorry.

Date: 2012-10-07 04:56 am (UTC)From:Some small part of her brain is telling her this is ridiculous. People don't eat out of trash cans. But she's too hungry to care. Betty hops up and down excitedly a few times but she's too short to reach the can.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:00 am (UTC)From:He uses his big mouth to grab the edge of the can and carefully lower it so it doesn't crash to the ground. This way, they can eat longer without the owner of the trash rushing out to interrupt them. Most people don't usually appreciate others rooting through their garbage, especially animals. Since she's a smaller dog though, he lets her have run of the can while he stands watch. He can probably polish off whatever she leaves behind, but there are humans, and other animals to watch out for.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:03 am (UTC)From:The warm smell of hamburgers wafting out into her nostrils. Betty's practically panting hungrily as she pulls out one of the patties that didn't make it to being a burger. Nomming hungrily.
After she's finished one, she picks up another with her teeth and brings it to drop at his feet. Here, you'd better eat before I take it all. He's probably hungrier.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:09 am (UTC)From:Unfortunately it's taken his eyes off of the alley and a small pack of feral dogs round the corner, also drawn in with the smell of an easy meal.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:12 am (UTC)From:Her ears go up again as they're suddenly surrounded by a pack of dogs, licking their chops and intent on getting to the food. One shoves her aside, another sniffing at her too close for comfort. Betty doesn't like what he's implying, backing off with a whine.
This is ours, go knock over your own.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:18 am (UTC)From:With his giant mass, he can safely stand over the small dog, his paws on either side of her as he gives a weak growl. It's nothing threatening, but it's a warning they should go find somewhere else to eat.
So you're a tough guy? Let's see you take on the whole pack. The other dogs don't take it well, and there's a returned growl, this one clearly more threatening.
Bruce whimpers a little, but the feeling of the fur at his feet bolsters him to stand his ground. He tries a calm, low woof. He's a big dog, he has a big voice. Maybe he can intimidate them?

Date: 2012-10-07 05:20 am (UTC)From:The leader, a pit bull, growls louder with his ears back, clearly not afraid of the duo. Better beat it, mister. This is our turf.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:27 am (UTC)From:Well, it's ours now! The beta in the group makes a snap at Bruce's neck and that gets him to snarl, baring his teeth.
You won't like me when I'm angry. So, back off! He can feel his hackles raising, and stops growling long enough to try and shake his head clear, and that's when the pit bull charges.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:30 am (UTC)From:Just leave us alone, we'll go...
One of the others tries to snap at her while the leader charges at the larger dog. Betty dodges, finding herself backed into a corner by two of the others.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:39 am (UTC)From:NO! Leave her alone! He doesn't care who the dog is that's been kind to him, but there's no reason to attack her. The other two dogs have rounded on Bruce and jump on him, but he scoots down to the ground and slips out from under them. They've landed a few nips and scratches, but he doesn't run. In fact he stands his ground, keeping his head low but in a threatening manner this time, that growl increasing in volume and almost becoming something else. His eyes are rimmed in green, and the tan fur along his back almost seems to shimmer green as the color creeps up from the roots.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:41 am (UTC)From:Right about then, the other dogs charge the larger, now greener, dog, teeth bared and intent on taking him down for good.
no subject
Date: 2012-10-07 05:55 am (UTC)From:There's a loud yelp from the alpha as the green dog latches on to the top of his neck and holds on, regardless of what the other two dogs try. Eventually he kicks his back feet out, sending one of them skittering across the alley with a yelp.

Date: 2012-10-07 05:59 am (UTC)From:After a few attempts at overwhelming the bigger dog, the pack is worse for wear and starting to consider pulling back. Even the leader is worried, not able to keep his teeth in the dog's fur, something he's never had a problem with before. It was like the Great Dane had grown armored fur all of the sudden, he couldn't be stopped.
Finally, they all fall back, licking their wounds and yelping that they'll be back with friends! But likely, they'll keep their distance from now on.

Bruce?

Date: 2012-10-07 06:29 am (UTC)From:Her leg still hurts, but feels a little better when he's licking it. So she tries to settle near his head, still licking his face affectionately. She really doesn't know what else to do, Betty's just so happy to see him, even in this state. I love you so much, you were so brave.

Date: 2012-10-07 06:35 am (UTC)From:Don't know what's wrong. He whines, opening an eye that's now cleared of the gamma glow, a worried look on his massive face. He licks at her leg again, fretting over her. You're hurt...

Date: 2012-10-07 06:38 am (UTC)From:Betty whimpers when he hits a sore spot, putting her head down on her front paws to try and lay still. The leg has stopped bleeding thankfully. It's feeling a little better.
