"Safe?" He parrots back, looking confused but she's already gone. "Wait!" He tries to stand, only to stumble and land on his knees at the water's edge. He's cold and wet, and now he's alone in the cave. While she's gone he makes an inspection of the place, picking his way along the rounded rocks in his bare feet. Eventually, he finds a drier part of the cave and sits there. The only way out is through the surf and he's not even certain how they made it into the cave in the first place.
He's huddled out of the wind and sea spray when she returns, and he can't help but smile at the sight of her, carrying a fish of all things in her mouth. When she offers it out to him though he pauses a moment, before nodding and taking it.
"Uh, thanks." He sighs, he's had raw fish before, it's not pleasant, but it's sustenance and right now he can't be choosy. There's no way he's going to build a fire in this damp place, even if he had wood. He grabs it and takes a bite out of the fish, trying not to make a face as he chews and swallows. At least it helps get rid of the gritty feeling in his throat.
