"That was a foolhardy chance you took," Betty says, but she really doesn't mean it. She's just all worried that he's shot worse than he's telling. She stays at his wounded arm in case he needs help getting out the door. Her own gun in hand, one that she's prepared to use too. Her dad was an army general, she definitely knew her way around handguns.
It was still a moonlit night outside the door but the guards were coming back towards the Captain's cabin. Betty ducked down slightly, not sure which way to run. The moment they got up the stairs, they would be seen.
